Skaryna for children

The classes on the book “Skaryna for children” were held in the camp”Vacation with God“. This book can not only be read, it is also possible (and even necessary!) to write and draw in it. In addition to the text, the book, which is a kind of creative notebook, contains 25 interesting tasks about the Belarusian first printer Frantishak Skaryna. The children’s edition is rich in coloring books, crosswords and other “interactive” tasks. The participants of the classes “traveled” with Francišak on the map of Europe and found out where he was born, studied and printed. All this way was connected with Skaryna’s main business-printing the books of the Bible.

The era of printing in Europe began with the publication of the Johannes Gutenberg Bible in Latin. In the second half of the XV century, Latin translations of the Bible were printed in many cities of Western Europe. At the same time, the Book of Books began to be translated and published in national languages. The Bible, prepared and published by Francišak Skaryna, is special, as evidenced by the structure of the publication, the artistic design, the author’s font, the translation of the text. In the classroom, the children learned how the typesetter worked, whether Skaryna’s books had title pages, why he placed his portrait in the publication. Creative tasks helped the participants to easily assimilate the topic. The result of the lessons was new knowledge, good mood and bright title pages of the books of the Bible and portraits of Skaryna created by the children.
