On Saturday, February 8, our children’s grandparents gathered from all over Belarus to celebrate Grandparents’ Day. About 200 people attended the celebration at the Mission.
The program began with a common prayer. The children asked God for blessings for their grandparents and sang a few praises.
After the prayer, all present went to the great hall, where the main part of the celebration took place. First, Father Aljaksandr Szamrycki, chaplain of the Mission, addressed the audience with a messege. The priest drew attention to the Church’s teaching about the role of grandparents in the upbringing of children. “Today’s world has a culture of rejection. Everything that is not in trend, unfashionable, old —is discarded. In this way, older people, grandparents, who are often the bearers of old and irrelevant ideas for the younger generation, are rejected. ”The Catholic Church teaches that grandparents have a special mission in raising children — to pass on love for the Fatherland, respect for the family and faith in God. Their life experience is very important. “
During the concert, children read poems, sang, played musical instruments, there was even a small play.
At the end everyone was served a special treat. The adults got acquainted and just talked, and the kids could run and play around.
