Great Friday is the day on which we deeply chew the flour, crucifixion and death of the Savior. It’s a day of pity and sadness, it’s a day of silence. At the Center of Great Friday is the death of the Savior on the cross. The cross is a sign of God’s love for man.
On the evening of Great Friday, a service of worship of the holy cross is performed in all churches. Going to the altar, the priests lay down in front of him with a cross and pray in silence for a while together with the faithful. After this prayer, the priest brings in a cross wrapped in a purple cloth, and, lifting it, gradually removes the cloth, singing three times: “Here is the tree of the cross on which the Savior of the world died”. Believers answer: “let’s go with a bow”. Then the priest honors the cross, and after him all the believers do it. After the worship of the Cross, the communion is given, and the holy Eucharistic gifts are transferred to a symbolic tomb, where they remain until the end of the Easter Vigil. This “tomb of Christ”, usually beautifully decorated with flowers, remains the only illuminated place in the church, and all other lights are extinguished. Believers remain in front of her in prayer and worship for a long time.
